Audiovisual production for NGOs in Africa

You have images to deliver to a donor, in a country where you have never filmed. We mobilise an AfroCréateur who lives there, speaks the language of the people on camera and knows the ground. You sign one contract, whether it covers one country or ten.

/ What sets us apart

Three things an agency flying in cannot promise you

  1. 01

Creators who speak the local languages

The videographer shooting your reportage speaks to participants in their own language, with no interpreter standing between them and the camera. That changes what gets said: people tell their story instead of answering questions. It also changes the shooting schedule, because building trust no longer eats the day. Our teams work in French, in English, and in the languages of the areas where they live — Hausa, Zarma, Wolof, Bambara, Lingala, among others.

No agency flying a crew in from Europe can guarantee that across all of your countries of intervention.

    Evidence

« Sur le terrain, Moctar s'est montré efficace ; il était évident qu'il avait l'habitude de tourner dans des conditions relativement difficiles […]. Le fait qu'il parle la langue locale a également été d'une aide plus que précieuse. »
    Caritas International Belgique
  2. 02

    Ethical filming with vulnerable people

Filming a child in treatment, a survivor of violence, a displaced family, calls for a protocol and not only good intentions. We explain the project before any equipment comes out, we obtain consent from the person or their legal guardian, we accept a refusal without negotiating, and we frame so that no one is ever identifiable against their own interest. Filming takes place in the presence of your designated contact if you wish.

This is the first concern our clients raise, and the point our letters of reference are most explicit about.

    Evidence

« Ils ont su appréhender les sujets avec tact, douceur et dignité, des points indispensables pour notre organisation. Ils ont été très appréciés par les équipes médicales pour leur écoute et leur prévenance. »
    ALIMA
  3. 03

    Consistency across countries

A regional programme usually produces as many image styles as it has country offices. We treat your countries of intervention as a single commission: one shooting brief, one grade, one delivery format, one subtitle template. Your regional publications hold together, and your country teams do not each have to find a supplier of their own.

One point of contact, one contract, one invoice, however many countries are involved.

    Evidence

« La capacité d'AFROTO à mobiliser des photographes et vidéastes professionnels sur le continent est une réelle plus-value pour l'OIF dans le cadre de ses projets multi-pays afin d'obtenir des outils de communication homogènes pour l'ensemble de ses zones d'intervention. »
    Organisation internationale de la Francophonie

/ Method

Working from terms of reference

You work with terms of reference, a budget already approved and a reporting deadline. Our process starts from that document, not from a creative brief to be invented.

01

We read your ToR

We take your expected deliverables one by one and answer in your own nomenclature. If any point in the terms of reference cannot be met within the timeline or the budget, we say so before signature, not on delivery.

02

What we ask for upfront

  • The intervention sites and how accessible they are
  • The field focal point's contact details
  • Your visual guidelines and the donor's
  • Mandatory acknowledgements and logos
  • The people who must not be filmed
  • The reporting date by which the images have to be ready
03

What we deliver

  • A framing note before the field trip
  • Edited files in the requested formats
  • Captioned photographs, full resolution and web versions
  • Raw footage where your contract provides for it
  • Signed consent forms
  • A one-page mission report

/ Framework

Consent and rights

  1. 01

Consent of the people filmed. A paper or digital form, or filmed consent where writing is not appropriate. Legal guardian's consent for minors. The documents are handed over with the files.

  2. 02

Usage rights transferred. A written transfer for your institutional use, on all media, with no limit of duration or territory. Paid advertising use is covered by a separate clause.

  3. 03

Donor visual guidelines. We apply visibility guidelines — European Union, United Nations agencies, bilateral cooperation agencies — to format, logo placement and funding acknowledgements.

  4. 04

Archiving. Your edited files and raw footage stay available for download for three months. Beyond that, archiving is extended free of charge on request.

/ Frequently asked questions

What we are asked before signing

How long from order to delivery?

Allow seven to fifteen days between quote approval and filming, the time needed to set up the field visit with your focal point. Edited files are delivered within 72 hours of the end of filming. For event coverage, a selection is delivered every evening.

What languages can you film in?

Interviews are conducted in French, in English or in the language of the person interviewed, depending on the AfroCréateurs available in the area. Translations and subtitles are delivered in French and English; other subtitle languages are possible on request.

How do you handle field security?

Our teams live in the country and know which areas can be filmed and which cannot. We apply your security rules and those of your local partner, and we follow your movement instructions. If an area becomes inaccessible, we propose a postponement or a fallback site rather than a compromised shoot.

Who owns the raw footage?

Usage rights to the delivered files are transferred to you for institutional use. Handover of the raw footage is written into the contract whenever you need it, in particular to build a reusable image library. We keep the right to reference the assignment in our portfolio, unless you require a confidentiality clause.
